Yoga With Purpose - An International Fundraiser

This June 19th-25th, in line with International Yoga Day and World Refugee Week we are facilitating an international fundraiser for The Global Women’s Project.

We're asking that you support this initiative by running a donation-based class during the week 19th-25th June.

To provide you with some context, after the Nepal earthquakes in April and May 2015, a fellow yoga teacher who some of you may know, Katie Amrita, ran a similar fundraiser, "Yoga For Nepal", which raised an impressive $22,000+ for earthquake relief. Throughout Australia and East Timor 62 yoga teachers and 47 studios came together to donate their time and spaces for free and the money raised through these donation-based classes was donated to two organisations, one of which was The Global Women's Project.

The Global Women's Project were in Nepal at the time of the earthquakes, and in the weeks and months following provided direct relief to over 65,000 people. They also set up a shelter providing shelter, support and care for 178 pregnant women and new mothers displaced by the earthquakes, and roughly 400 of their family members, including their newborns over a 12 month period.

Over the last two years, they have continued to support women in Nepal, and are currently supporting over 1300 women to access skills, resources and networks through three rural Women's Hubs.

Working in partnership with local women-led organisations. The Global Women's Project is currently raising funds to launch a new entrepreneurship, business development and leadership program for women in Nepal, through the Women's Hubs they support.

The funds raised through Yoga With Purpose will go towards this new program, ensuring women in Nepal continue to have access to the tools they need to rebuild their lives, to achieve financial independence and everything that comes with that - greater choice, control and self-determination.

The current project "Yoga with Purpose" will use the same model as "Yoga for Nepal" to raise money for the Global Women's Project's new program. Additionally, in line with International Yoga Day and World Refugee Week we are hoping to emphasise the corporate responsibility of the yoga industry and the responsibility and possibilities that come with having a public platform.
